Pippa Cossens

I am the prinicipal osteopath and owner of Osteopathy For All.

I graduated from the European School of Osteopathy in 1994 and since then have been in private practice. For 8 years during that time I worked in the clinic at the Osteopathic Centre for Children in London and ran the education department for the postgraduate Diploma in Osteopathy

Why did you want to become an osteopath?

I was lucky enough to have been taken to see an osteopath as a child and even then could see what a brilliant way is was to help so many people.

Area of special interest within Osteopathy

My special interest is fibromyalgia, chronic pain and anxiety in adults and children.  If we help decrease the tension, stress and overwhelm in the body we can help reduce and prevent chronic pain and all its associated symptoms. Taking into account the whole of a patient’s story is key to their recovery. The hands-on osteopathic treatment combined with a MindBody, BioPsychoSocial approach that we use at the clinic helps achieve that. Treating children who are struggling to relax can help to re-balance an over-zealous fight/flight response so not only are they calmer now but they are less lightly to suffer with chronic illness as adults.

I have a true understanding of chronic pain as I had a diagnosis of fibromyalgia and had been in nearly constant pain for 5 years. Now I am recovered and through my own recovery experience and training to be a SIRPA practitioner I am passionate about helping others recover too. This is why I have developed the recovery, the wellbeing and the children’s toolkits to give others the tools required to lead a more comfortable life.

Random facts:

  • I sing
  • If I wasn’t an Osteopath I would like to run a tea shop
  • The three people I would invite to a dinner party would be Lorimer Moseley (cutting edge pain scientist), Brene Brown (shame researcher/storyteller – google her), my son.

What would be your number one tip for our patients?

Don’t struggle on alone – ask for support -whether that be from friends or family or someone professional, people are happy to help.

You are worth it.
