Moving Out Of Chronic Pain

Day: Mondays 18.00 - 20.00
Course of 8 start TBA Cost: £150 for the course.
Instructor: Paul Harrington, Osteopath

A class particularly for those experiencing chronic or long-term persistent pain. It combines gentle movement practices alongside understanding the underlying changes in chronic pain patterns.

It is an 8 week foundation training that provides you with an understanding of why you might be struggling with pain, and how the work we do in this training will help to improve the way you feel. It will help you develop the skills needed to become more resilient, and support you to establish a home practice that will help you change the course of your health for the better.

Long-standing physical and emotional pain is now known to be deeply connected to difficult past experiences, long held beliefs and the stories that we hold about ourselves. The pain is usually a signal that the nervous system has become too rigid, over protective and over reactive. This nervous system imbalance has a big effect on the body’s overall functioning and eventually produces many of the physiological and emotional symptoms we associate with chronic illness.

This eight week course simply provides a structured and peer supported way to examine how we individually organise ourselves to be in the world. This enables us to get some clarity about what kind of changes we each need to make in order to feel better.

An important part of the course is self reflection and the sharing of experiences within the group. The group functions as a safe container to express our authentic thoughts and feelings. Being seen and heard by others in a context of safety is a powerful regulating experience for the nervous system and we learn from each other.

For this new improved course we have introduced a home practice element. This is because developing any new skill requires a certain amount of practice.

We want to run the course with a minimum of 6 people, so if you’re interested, call the clinic and we’ll arrange a suitable start date as soon as we have enough participants.
