What Osteopathy Means to Us

Osteopathy is a connected approach to healthcare based around the individual.

For the team at Osteopathy For All, osteopathic care is not just about correcting posture or releasing tight muscles or joints. It is much bigger than that.

Its foundations in medicine and treatment are delivered through a variety of hands-on techniques. These are designed to help release and balance your body, assisting in the journey back to good health.

Alongside this, we give you advice to help keep your body healthy. This may be in the form of exercise plans or relaxation techniques, all individually tailored to you and your needs.

The Mindbody Approach

At Osteopathy For All, we treat people as people. We assess for all the factors that may be contributing to your poor health or wellbeing and treat them accordingly.

It is our understanding that the mind and body work together in relation to physical symptoms. Not only do we consider physical events when it comes to your body, but we also look at the effects of stress and negative thoughts.

The environment we create within ourselves can fundamentally change our health. By addressing our inner thoughts, we can become more aware of our responses to triggers or feelings of overwhelm.

Our team of osteopaths are all trained in pain neuroscience, stress illness and mindbody medicine. We use this approach with our patients to treat a range of issues in a holistic way, creating individualised treatment plans.

What to Expect at Your First Appointment

When a patient visits us, we make sure that we listen to their whole story. The recent pain or injury will be discussed and if necessary, we will talk about your past medical history and any life events that may seem an important factor. This gives us a true picture of what may be influencing your body and helps us to formulate a management plan specific to you.

We then will examine the area that is causing the issue and any other areas that may be affected by it. We might ask you to perform some simple movement tests and if required, complete a neurological screening such as taking your reflexes. All this information helps us to build a picture of how your body is functioning and what treatment is required to help you.

When we treat you, we will always explain what we are going to do and what to expect next. At Osteopathy For All, we tend to work on the gentler side of osteopathic techniques, such as cranial, which is when we use touch to feel subtle changes of tension and tissue quality in the whole body.

At the end of an appointment, we will give you advice and exercises so you can continue treatment at home. Osteopathic treatment can help alleviate symptoms but it is important to carry on with self-care habits to ensure the negative symptoms do not return.

What Osteopathy Means to Osteopathy For All

After treatment, many of our patients comment that they just feel generally better. They may have come to us with an achy lower back but the combination of gentle osteopathy and the therapeutic support from our osteopaths allows people to feel more comfortable in themselves. Often, our patients leave feeling more balanced and like they can better manage themselves physically and emotionally.

When you visit us, you will feel like you have been listened to and supported. We have slightly longer appointments compared to other osteopaths to ensure that we have enough time to fully understand your needs. It is important to us that we develop a plan for you and provide the most appropriate gentle osteopathic treatment.

Osteopathy is traditional holistic healthcare backed by the latest medical knowledge. Our extensive training means that we are able to diagnose osteopathic and medical conditions. From here, we will either treat you or refer you to the appropriate medical professional.

All our osteopaths have additional training in stress illness and are trauma informed. Stress is often overlooked as a possible cause of physical pain but persistent stress can be a contributing factor to chronic pain within the body.

We understand that every person is different and a one size fits all approach simply does not work. Your needs will be completely different from the last person we saw and so it is important to us that we identify your individual needs. We will then work with you to find the right treatment and ongoing care that is tailored for your needs.
