Mental health is a big factor of how happy we feel every day. Many people are looking for ways to pay attention to the present moment and improve wellbeing, especially during this time of uncertainty.

There are lots of things we can do to take care of our wellbeing.

At Osteopathy For All, we offer osteopathic services for improving health and wellbeing. We use the mindbody approach, which looks at both the body and mind to help determine which treatment plan would be most beneficial to each individual.

The Mindbody Approach

At Osteopathy For All, we approach osteopathy from a biopsychosocial viewpoint and use a mindbody approach in conjunction with hands on osteopathy to help you recover.

What does this really mean?

It means that we consider all the relevant parts of your health history when formulating a treatment plan. The physical, the emotional and your social or environmental situation so we have a true understanding of what is relevant to you and your individual recovery.

This has been shown to be the way forward to reduce pain and discomfort and other medically unexplained symptoms such as fatigue and fibromyalgia. It could include past accidents or injuries and the effect of things going on in your life at present, such as your work life balance or the health of your family.

For each person different elements will be more important than others and have more impact.

As an example, you may have fallen over and sprained your ankle and sustained some local tissue injury or swelling. Alongside this you may also be worried about its impact on your life and this might be affecting your sleep.

In this case we would treat your ankle with gentle osteopathic techniques to release any tension and remove any swelling. Together with this, we might point you in the direction of the ‘Fatigue & Sleep’ section on or website to help you get your sleep under control again.

Another example is that you may come to us with long-term persistent or chronic pain that you have had for several years. This may have come on after lifting something heavy but it has never gone away.  What we know about the latest pain neuroscience is this scenario may have different factors that are important.

It may be muscle tension and tightness but it could also be caused by other several stressful events over the last few years. These factors are contributing to an elevated stress response or neural pathway adaptation.

Current stressors and previous stressors from as far back as childhood can contribute to long-term pain conditions. In these cases, we treat any tension in the body whilst  helping you to explore the link between your pain and other factors that may be influencing it.

Our team members Pippa and Louise are both SIRPA trained practitioners alongside being osteopaths. Paul is currently studying Hakomi, a psychologically informed approach to pain management.

How We Adopt the Mindbody Approach

At Osteopathy For All, we care for you in a holistic way. We take all factors of your health history into consideration. By applying our understanding of the body and mind, we try to identify any underlying causes to your symptoms and then treat them.

Our osteopaths are trained in pain neuroscience, stress illness and mindbody medicine. We understand that the mind and body are interdependent and poor physical health can often come hand-in-hand with other symptoms related to mental health.

Using gentle hands on therapy and osteopathic techniques, we create a treatment plan that is tailored towards your needs. Our ethos as a practice is to consider every person as an individual because we know that a one size fits all approach does not work.

Whether you are looking for relief from chronic pain or to improve wellbeing, we will work with you to find the best course of action.

How to Improve Wellbeing Using this Approach

Our holistic way of viewing things helps us to identify whether there is a connection between your health problems. Wellbeing is an ongoing consideration that needs to be nurtured.

When treating patients, we often find that underlying issues related to general wellbeing can be incorporated into our treatment plans. These tend to help with an overall improvement in multiple areas of health.

Choosing actions that are beneficial to your body and mind everyday will help to improve wellbeing. Some of the main ways to improve your wellbeing include a healthy diet, practicing gratitude, being physically active and spending time connecting with other people.

When you come to us for treatment, we will help your body to get moving again. Alongside this, we work with you to identify any stressors that may be affecting your health unknowingly. We provide advice and resources on how to best manage this stress outside of the practice setting.

Regular treatment can keep your body feeling more comfortable, reduce stiffness, improve circulation, which in turn helps you to relax, feel more at home in your body and more able to engage with life fully.
